Islamabad : A Sikh family on a pilgrimage in Pakistan was looted of cash and valuables. But prompt police action led to the recovery of the money and the arrest of the criminals.

The family of Hardiyal Singh was travelling to Lahore after praying at Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak, when they were waylaid by a gang, Geo News Friday quoted police as saying.

Their taxi was intercepted near the Pipalwala bypass in Punjab province. Its driver confessed to his involvement in the crime.

The arrested men were identified as Zulfiqar, Munir and Attaullah. Geo News said the money, mobile phones and other valuables were returned to the Sikh family.

Thousands of Sikhs gathered this week at Nankana Sahib to mark the 543rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. Geo News did not say if the affected Sikh family was from India.
