Maoist camp with huge cache of explosives busted

Raipur : Kondagaon district police Wednesday destroyed a Maoist camp in the forest near Sejan village and recovered a truckload of explosives and other destructive materials from the site, police officials said.

Bastar range Inspector General Himanshu Gupta told IANS: “Kondagaon district police smashed a camp of insurgents Wednesday and recovered a large quantity of explosive materials.”

According to Gupta, police received information that Maoists were accumulating a huge amount of explosives at a camp in the dense forest of Sejan village, 225 km south of state capital Raipur.

A joint team of district police and Chhattisgarh Armed Forces soldiers cordoned off the area. The Maoists started firing on the police team. The encounter lasted for an hour, forcing the ultras to flee into the jungles.

Four rocket launchers, two pressure bombs, four packets of hand grenades, 5 kg of gunpowder, material used for preparing bombs, wires, detonators, batteries, chargers, looted electronic voting machines and Maoist literature, besides items of daily use were recovered.
