“We have arrested three men, identified as Abhishek Roy, Bishwajit Majhi, and Shubhankar Das who were involved in making and detonating the bomb,” Howrah Commissioner of Police Ajey Mukund Ranade told mediapersons.

“However, Debashish Dey, the mastermind, is yet to be arrested. We have dispatched police teams to Vishakhapatnam and Mumbai to search for him,” Ranade said.

The victim, Chaitali Santra, 40, a human rights activist, was killed and her husband critically injured Sep 26 after she opened a parcel delivered to her.

Police said the motive behind the offence was revenge. Chaitali Santra had given evidence in a marital dispute case against the prime accused, Dey.

“Dey met contract killer Shubhankar Das and paid him Rs.2 lakh to kill Chaitali. Das organised the murder. His aide Majhi made the bomb and he hired two people to deliver it,” Ranade said.

The police have recovered a mobile phone, an ATM card and the bike used to deliver the parcel.
