Kolkata : Eleven people were charge sheeted in a court for the rape and murder of a mentally deranged women whose body was earlier exhumed from inside a mental asylum in West Bengal’s Hooghly district.
“Today, we submitted the charge sheet against 11 people before a Hooghly court. They have been charged with rape and murder of Gudiya, a mentally-deranged woman,” Deputy Inspector General Shankar Chakrabarty, of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), told IANS.
The highly decomposed body of 32-year-old Gudiya was exhumed July 11 from the backyard of the metal asylum in Dhaniakhali in the Hooghly district, of which she was an inmate.
All the 11 accused are behind bars.
Following accusations of inmates about regular torture by the home keepers and the subsequent disappearance of Gudiya, the police raided the shelter home and in the process dug out the body.
Following the incident, the rehabilitation home has been closed and the inmates have been shifted to other government-run asylums in the state.
