New Delhi: The Delhi unit of Students Islamic Oraganisation of India (SIO) organized a cultural programme at the Scholar School in Jamia Nagar on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, General Secretary of the SIO, PM Saleh reminded the audience that Islam being a complete way of life, has also given a lot of importance to cultural and extra-curricular activities. He stressed on the use of cultural activities to propagate the message of Islam.
Anis ur Rahman, Zonal President SIO Delhi zone, said that cultural activities have worked as a backbone in all major revolutions of the world. He stressed on the use of such activities while remaining within the ethical and moral limits.
Professor B. Deewakar of Jamia’s AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, who was one of the invitees, emphasised on holding such events regularly to nurture the hidden talents among students and youths.
He congratulated SIO for organizing the event and praised SIO for its various activities specially those done to promote educational and cultural talents of poor and needy people.
Students from various schools and colleges participated in the festival. Sumaiyyah Mannan (Shaheen Public School) got the first prize in poetry recitation while second and third positions were obtained by Abdur Raheem PZ (JNU) and Vidya Sagar (DU) respectively.
In extempore elocution Umar Shah, Vidya Sagar and Kashif Mansoor of Delhi University won the first, second and third prizes, respectively.
Athar Khan of JMI secured the first position in mimicry while a team from Jamia Hamdard won the first prize in Drama.
SIO is organizing cultural programmes throughout the country. The concluding programme shall be held in Kolkata, where renowned vocalist Sami Yusuf will be the guest of honour.
