Goons ruling the roost in Akhilesh’s UP: Mayawati

By IANS,

Lucknow : BSP president Mayawati Tuesday billed the seven-month-old Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh as an “utter failure” and alleged that goons of the ruling Samajwadi Party had let loose terror in the state.

Recalling before a gathering of thousands of supporters at the Ramabai ground here how six months back she had predicted that people would soon repent their decision to vote the SP to power, the Bahujan Samaj Party leader warned against insults to Dalit icons and seers.

Pointing out how names of universities, institutions and parks were being changed and Dalits being harassed in the present regime, Mayawati warned officials not to toe the SP government line blindly.

She added that during her tenure she had never changed the names of government programmes, and resented that the Akhilesh Yadav government was reversing her orders out of “political vengeance”.

Targeting arch rival and national president of the Samajwadi Party (SP) Mulayam Singh Yadav for opposing caste-based reservations in promotions, she said it was only because of the reservations that Mulayam Singh Yadav and his clan had made it big in politics and held several positions in governments.

“Had it not been for the constitutional provisions laid down by B.R. Ambedkar, Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family would be grazing cattle somewhere,” she said.

Accusing the Akhilesh Yadav government of taking credit for all the projects that were undertaken during her regime, Mayawati said, “This government has nothing to show as performance and is hinged on mere announcements.”

Saying that Uttar Pradesh has been turned into a “Crime Pradesh” and that law and order has completely collapsed in the state, Mayawati told her supporters how the gangsters and criminals who were behind bars during her government were now ruling the roost.

“People are afraid to send their daughters out in the evenings,” she added. Referring to the communal riots and tensions in many places, she said during her five-year rule, communal harmony was maintained at all costs.

Mayawati also accused the Akhilesh Yadav government of hoodwinking people on schemes like the Kanya Vidya Dhan and Berozgari Bhatta (unemployment allowance) and alleged that the benefits of both these schemes were going to SP workers and their families. On the popular sop like tablet PCs and laptops for students, Mayawati said they all would later be sold to shops at throwaway prices.

She also accused the Akhilesh Yadav government of spending exorbitantly on the launch of such schemes. “I am keeping track of everything and will not spare anyone opposed to us when we come back to power,” she said.
