New Delhi : A Delhi court Tuesday awarded life terms to three members of a family for burning a woman to death in 2010.
Additional Sessions Judge Kaveri Baweja awarded the sentences to Aslam, 65, and his two sons Asraf and Sammi for setting Aslam’s nephew’s daughter on fire Oct 16, 2010.
“Having regard to the facts and circumstances of the case and keeping in view the relevant statutory provisions, all the above named accused Aslam, Asraf and Sammi are sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life for the offence punishable under Section 302 (murder)/34 (criminal intimidation),” said the court.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs.10,000 on Aslam and Rs.35,000 on his sons.
According to the prosecution, Aslam with the help of Asraf, Sammi and his daughter Humma set the victim Arti on fire on the morning of Oct 16, 2010, at her residence at Chandani Mahal after a quarrel. Humma is on the run and untraceable.
Arti was married to Aslam’s nephew Javed. Aslam and his family members were against the marriage as Arti was from another religion.
The court held them guilty on the basis of Arti’s dying declaration.
