Bihar policemen postpone mass-leave protest

By IANS,

Patna : Over 65,000 Bihar policemen Wednesday postponed their decision to go on mass leave for five days from Oct 10 to press for their various demands, an official here said.

Bihar Policemen’s Association (BPA) president Jitendra Kumar Singh said the decision to go on mass leave was postponed after an assurance by the state government that their demands would be met.

“Chief Minister Nitish Kumar assured us to fulfil our demands. We have postponed our protest till Nov 30,” Singh told reporters here.

He said Bihar police chief Abhayanand has also promised help to get their demands met.

The policemen’s demand include grade pay of Rs.2,000 on par with other states, appointment of a havaldar over every four constables and an assistant sub-inspector over 12 constables.

After talks with the state government failed last week, BPA had threatened that the constabulary in the state would go on mass leave.
