Srinagar : Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani Wednesday condemned the Taliban attack on 14-year-old schoolgirl Malala Yusufzai in Peshawar (Pakistan).
“Whatever the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan is doing in the name of Islam is condemnable,” Geelani said, at a function at his uptown Hyderpora residence where he released copies of his latest book, “Wular Kay Kinare” (On the banks of Wular Lake).
Geelani said: “The attack on Mulala Yusufzai is condemnable.”
The hardline separatist leader also criticized what he called the “politicization of educational institutions in Kashmir”.
He did not mention Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi by name, but alluded to his recent visit to the state saying: “Authorities in our educational institutions, especially the Kashmir University, are facilitating the cultural invasion of Kashmir.”
He also warned some officers and teachers of the university whom he accused of facilitating the alleged “cultural invasion”.
Rahul Gandhi had an over two-hour-long interaction with the students of Kashmir University last week, when he visited the state with a galaxy of the country’s corporate bosses to help local students get campus placements and internships, and set up innovation centres to address unemployment among educated youths here.
Prior to Rahul’s visit, President Pranab Mukherjee addressed the 18th convocation of the university. Vice President Hamid Ansari attended the Jammu and Kashmir science congress meet at Kashmir University last month.
