Court says no to Vectra chief’s Britain visit

By IANS,

New Delhi : A special court here Wednesday denied permission to Vectra group chief Ravinder Rishi to visit Britain for medical treatment and business. He is an accused in a defence-related corruption case.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge Talwant Singh did not accept the Vectra chief’s plea for the foreign visit.

The CBI Oct 10 opposed Rishi’s plea to go to Britain saying that he might destroy evidence and not return to India.

The petition filed by Rishi’s counsel said: “Grant permission to the applicant (Rishi) to travel to the United Kingdom for a period of 30 days and accordingly direct the CBI to inform the concerned authorities and the lookout circular dated March 31 may be suspended for the period of travel.”

The CBI registered a case naming Rishi and unnamed officials of the defence ministry, the army and company BEML March 30 for alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating and offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Rishi is facing a CBI probe in connection with the alleged irregularities in supply of Tatra all-terrain trucks to public sector BEML which supplied them to the army.
