Lucknow: The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has ordered the “Aaj Tak” to submit entire documents and records in its possession, related to allegations against the Law Minister Salman Khurshid’s Dr Zakir Hussain Trust.
The court was hearing a Writ Petition filed by Social activist, Dr Nutan Thakur.
The bench of Justice Uma Nath Singh and Justice Dr Satish Chandra said that as most of the allegations and averments in the petition appear to be based on this news channel’s programme hence notice is issued to bring all material before the court.
Next date of hearing is 30 October.
During the hearing, counsel for Central Government Vivek Tankha said that the petitioner has not conducted any investigation before filing this petition, and the petition is based on news items of “Aaj Tak.”
The counsel argued that the petition appears to be a proxy petition for this channel and has been filed to malign and scandalize high functionaries.
Bulbul Godiyal, Additional Advocate General for Uttar Pradesh, also raised similar objections.
Dr Thakur’s counsel, Asok Pande strongly denied allegations of proxy petition and said that the focus shall be on the allegations made in the Writ petition.
Dr Thakur has prayed in the petition that since a large number of incriminating facts have already come, hence the Home Department and enquiry agency EOW shall get an FIR registered in this matter and investigate it.
She has also prayed that the High Court monitors the investigation because the accused persons are highly influential.
