Two die in Madhya Pradesh temple stampede

Bhopal: At least two people were killed and 17 injured Saturday in a stampede at a Madhya Pradesh temple, police said.

Two people, including a woman, died after falling from the stairs of the Salkanpur Devi temple, Rehti police station in-charge S.C. Panchal told IANS over phone.

The temple is perched atop a mountain near Rehti town in Sehore district, about 70 km from here.

The stampede took place when the devotees were returning from the temple, police said.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced compensation of Rs.2 lakh each to the kin of the two dead and Rs.25,000 each for the injured.
