Arrests of terror suspects in Karnataka rises to 14

By IANS,

Bangalore : Karnataka Police have arrested a doctor for alleged links to Pakistan-based terror outfits LeT and HuJI, taking the number of people detained in the state in the last five days to 14, police said Monday.

Nayueem Siddique from Davangere in central Karnataka, was arrested in Bangalore late Saturday on the basis of information provided by those already arrested, Bangalore police said. Davangere is about 250 km north of Bangalore.

A laptop, mobile phone and Rs.10,000 in cash were seized from Siddique, it said.

Siddiqui, in his late twenties, was arrested on the suspicion of being a recruiter of people to carry out terror attacks and providing logistical and financial support to those arrested.

Police claimed that they were hatching a conspiracy to kill leading politicians, some journalists and Hindu organisation leaders, in Bangalore and elsewhere.

Of the 14 arrested so far, eight were held in Bangalore, five in the northern town of Hubli and one from Hyderabad.

The first arrests – six from Bangalore and five from Hubli, about 450 km from here – took place last Wednesday.

All the 14 are in police custody and are facing interrogation.
