India beefs up security around US missions

New Delhi : In the wake of the rocket attack on the US consulate in Libya Tuesday night that claimed the life of US ambassador Christopher Stevens, India Wednesday ordered the beefing up of security around all US missions in India, including its embassy in the national capital.

Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde told reporters here that he had issued necessary instructions in this regard soon after learning about the attack at the US consulate in Benghazi that claimed the lives of the US ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three other consulate employees.

The rocket attack was carried out Tuesday night at the US consulate at Benghazi in the northern-most part of Libya abutting the Mediterranean Sea.
