New Delhi : All central trade unions Friday condemned the fuel price hike and said this would further push up prices of food, making the life of “ordinary people more miserable”.
“The increase in price of diesel will have cascading effect on prices of essential commodities including food, vegetable and transport,” said a statement issued by the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS).
“The monthly budget of millions of people will be imbalanced due to withdrawal subsidy on LPG beyond six cylinders in a year,” it said.
The statement signed by nine trade unions said: “The government instead of mobilising resources from rich corporate who have capacity to pay has pushed the entire burden on the ordinary people.
“It has been done after steep increase in water and electricity charges by state governments.
“The central trade unions demanded withdrawal of the increase in diesel price and curtailing of subsidy on LPG.”
The statement has also been signed by leaders of INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, AICCTU, UTUC and SEWA.
