New Delhi: Three inter-state burglars, who have during interrogation admitted their involvement in the murder of a 78-year-old woman four years ago here, have been arrested, Delhi Police said.
Brijender, 25, Birpal, 35, and Shripal, 65 – residents of Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh – were arrested Friday from south Delhi’s Green Park market while they were planning a burglary, police said.
They have admitted their involvement in the murder of Hanslata Maheshwari, who was killed four years ago during a robbery attempt in an apartment in Greater Kailash II in south Delhi, police said.
“The accused admitted their involvement in several cases of burglaries in Delhi and also confessed their involvement in the brutal murder of the senior citizen in 2008,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma.
Hanslata was found murdered at the ground floor of her house when she was alone. Her son and his wife had gone outside to see an Indian Premier League cricket match. They found her body lying in a pool of blood when they returned home.
During interrogation, the three arrested men revealed that they accused worked for an Uttar Pradesh-based gang.
They mainly targeted posh localities of Delhi and the National Capital region (NCR). They hired an accommodation near the posh localities and in the day time they would observe the area on a bicycle, posing as plumbers and electricians.
