Islamabad : Over 21,000 Australian Merino sheep imported from Bahrain, which were found infected with salmonella, actinomyces and E. Coli, will now be culled and disposed of, officials said.
Karachi Commissioner Roshan Ali Shaikh told Geo News he has ordered the culling.
Veterinarians from the livestock department of Sindh would administer lethal injections to all sheep so that they could be killed “humanely” and the carcasses would then be dumped in a mass grave.
Officials said random blood and mouth tissue samples from 80 sheep tested positive for the diseases.
The sheep were recently offloaded at the Karachi port with the approval of port authorities.
