Agra : An hour-long heavy downpour Monday evening flooded several parts of Agra and brought traffic to a halt on the otherwise busy Mahatma Gandhi Road.
Vehicles were stranded in some other parts of the Taj city too.
“The downpour was so sudden,” said Shravan Kumar, who had gone to Nehru Nagar for a function when it began to pour.
Municipal corporation pumps were pressed into service at key traffic junctions to pump out water from overflowing streets.
Insurance agent Sudhir Gupta said Vijay Nagar and Gandhi Nagar were inaccessible as the roads were under knee-deep water.
Agra has been having some good luck with the monsoon this year.
Against an annual average of 650 mm, the city has already received 750 mm. The farmers are happy as the demand for diesel to run their pumps has gone down.
