TMC withdrawal a betrayal of people’s faith: Bengal Congress

By IANS,

Kolkata : Terming the Trinamool Congress’ decision of withdrawing support to the UPA regime as a “betrayal” of the people’s faith, the West Bengal Congress said Wednesday it was planning to occupy the opposition space in the state.

“We have sacrificed our political interest to support the Trinamool Congress in its fight against the Left. The withdrawal is nothing but betrayal of the people’s faith,” said senior Congress leader Abdul Mannan.

A day after the Trinamool’s pull-out from the UPA regime, the Congress asked its ministers in the state to skip the cabinet meet held Wednesday.

Small-scale Industries Minister Manas Bhuniya and Fisheries Minister Abu Hena skipped the meeting.

Miffed over the twin anti-people decisions of diesel price hike and FDI in retail, Banerjee Tuesday announced that the Trinamool Congress was withdrawing support to the UPA government.

However, the section of state Congress leadership which has always been up in arms against the wrong policies of the state government, rejoiced by stating that the decision would help them to openly protest against the wrong policies and decisions of the state government without the constraints of alliance.

“Our party will try to occupy the space of opposition in the state. This decision will help us to criticize the wrong doings of the state government without the constraints of alliance,” Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said.
