Jakarta : Students at the University of Indonesia here got to know India better, thanks to a string of programmes that included a short film, Indian dances, introduction to yoga and a demonstration of Indian cuisine.
Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Culture Centre and the Indian embassy presented the series of programmes titled “A Slice of India” to showcase various aspects of Indian traditions in the university campus, an embassy press release said.
Indian ambassador Gurjit Singh inaugurated the programme that commenced with screening of a short film to introduce India. Indian dances were followed by an introduction to yoga and its demonstration.
There was vocal and instrumental music, with a sitar recital by a volunteer of Indian origin.
A discussion on “Instruments of Cultural Diplomacy – India and Indonesia Relationship” was held in which Rizali Indrakusuma, ambassador designate to India, also participated.
A presentation was done on the educational opportunities in India.
Besides a display of saris worn in different styles, there was a demonstration of Indian cooking.
The students also got an opportunity to have henna applied, which was done by a university student of Indian origin.
