Religious leaders from all faiths join hands to protest against anti-Islam film in Lucknow

By TCN Special Correspondent,

Lucknow: Religious leaders from all faiths have joined hands to protest against controversial anti Islamic film in Lucknow. All of them will take out a joint protest march on Friday. The religious leaders include Maulana Irfan Miyan Farangi Mahali, Mahant Divya Giri of Mankameshwar temple, Acharya Pandit Shri Chandshukla and Peter Fanthome representing the Anglo Indian Community. The group also announced that a protest march would be taken out from Asafi Masjid to Chota Imambara after Friday prayers on September 28.

They have demanded an immediate ban on the exhibition of the controversial anti Islam movie ‘Innocence of Muslims’ on social network sites and Youtube.

Led by Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawad, the all-religion group has also demanded a UN intervention in the ‘derogatory content’ containing movies to prevent flaming communal passions. A march will be taken out in old city on Friday to press for the demand.

“We appeal the UN to ensure that such unacceptable content hurting sentiments of any religion should not be made public. The international court of justice should file a case against those guilty,” Maulana Jawad told newsmen here at the UP Press club on Tuesday.

Earlier in a letter to the prime minister Manmohan Singh, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has already requested to take steps towards blocking the films content on you tube and other websites as the film hurts the sentiments of the Muslim community and has caused widespread resentment. The move came after a delegation of the Islamic Centre of India led by the Imam of Eidgah, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali met the chief minister with the demands.

The controversial film has been widely criticised for its content and various protests have been staged by the Muslim community demanding a ban on the film.
