Patna : The emerging significance of Bihar as a potential rural market for urban consumer products and services will be detailed at the Stockholm School of Business.
According to V. Mukunda Das, director of the Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP), the Bihar model would be the focus of a lecture series at the Stockholm school.
“I will highlight the strategies that have put the state on a high growth trajectory,” a CIMP statement quoted him as saying.
“I will also dwell on the growing clamour of the state’s rural population for branded urban consumer products and services.”
Das said the growth of the rural market in Bihar was a matter of special interest for marketing researchers all over the world.
Bihar, with around 85 percent of the population in rural areas, is showing a paradigm shift in rural consumption.
“Every increase in cash income generates impetus among rural consumers to go in for urban consumer products. Through this process, the lifestyle of rural people is also changing very fast,” he said.
Bihar’s economy has been on an upswing since Nitish Kumar became the chief minister in 2005, ending 15 years of rule by Lalu Prasad’s Rashtriya Janata Dal.
