Congress MPs from Telangana protest at CM’s office

By IANS,

Hyderabad : In an unprecedented development, Members of Parliament from the Telangana region belonging to the ruling Congress party sat in protest Sunday outside the camp office of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Protesting the large-scale arrests of Telangana supporters coming to Hyderabad for participating in the Telangana march, a group of eight MPs marched to the chief minister’s camp office in the high-security Begumpet area.

Raising slogans of ‘Jai Telangana,’ the MPs along with their supporters sat in a protest on the road. There was a heated argument between the MPs and police officers.

The MPs alleged that after giving permission for the march, the government had gone back on its word and resorted to the arrest of hundreds of people coming to Hyderabad from various districts of Telangana.

Tension prevailed in the area as protestors, raising slogans of “Stop police repression” and “We will achieve Telangana state” blocked the road by squatting on it, bringing traffic to a halt in the busy area.

“The chief minister should come out and stop the arrests,” said Manda Jagannatham, one of the MPs on protest.
