Lhasa: The number of bodies recovered at the site of a mining area landslide in China’s Tibet region reached 17 late Sunday evening, Xinhua reported.
At least 15 more bodies were retrieved Sunday, rescuers said, adding 66 miners, however, remained missing.
The landslide occurred Friday in Maizhokunggar county, about 68 km from regional capital Lhasa.
The affected area of the landslide, caused by natural disasters, is spread over three kilometres, with about two million cubic metres of mud, rock and debris, a local government official said earlier.
Over 1,000 rescuers, including police, firefighters and medical personnel, were pressed into service at the landslide site, located at an altitude of 4,600 metres.
