Union Minority Minister rues at the lack of awareness in Assam on welfare schemes

By Abdul Gani, TwoCircles.net,

Guwahati: Union minority minister K Rahman Khan, who was on an official visit to Assam to look after the proceedings of the proper implementation of the Multi-sectoral Development Programme (MsDP) and Prime Minister’s 15-point programme for the welfare of the minority community, has expressed dissatisfaction on the overall scenario in the state.

He felt that the lack of awareness among the people is one of the major hurdles for the non-implementation of the schemes.

“There are several problems and these areas needed to be addressed properly. I feel the lack of awareness among the people of the community to take advantage of the schemes is one of the main reasons. It is shocking that people are not aware of the schemes properly,” Khan said after meeting the officials and ministers concerned including the Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi.

He, however, urged upon the people to set up a positive mindset for the much needed development of the minority community. “We have to give up the concept that we are minorities and somebody will give us. Rather, we need to develop a mindset when we can feel that we can also achieve if others can,” Khan who was a chartered accountant before joining politics added. He also rued at the failure of leadership among the community.

Moreover, he said that the government is just a facilitator not a provider. “It is the people who need to take the help of the facilitator to move ahead in the life instead of depending on it totally,” he said.

Besides, Khan said that Sachar Committee report has just reflected the reality which has been taking place for ages. “We, the people are also to be blamed as we just kept on organizing only seminars on the report ever since,” he said.
