Kolkata : Claiming that Gujarat has flourished under his regime, Chief Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday said that the BJP-ruled state has given politics a new issue: development.
“In India, be it political leaders, parties or ideologies, all will have to walk the development path, whether willingly or unwillingly. Gujarat has shown the country that development can be an issue for politics,” Modi said while addressing BJP workers here.
Claiming that Gujarat has become a yardstick for measuring success, Modi said his regime has forced other governments in the country to focus on the basic issue of politics.
“Whether you like it or loathe it, the parameter is Gujarat. When one does well, they say we have done better than Gujarat. If they fail, they say we need to emulate Gujarat,” he said.
“Gujarat has forced governments in the country to focus on the basic issue of development. People are now evaluating a government on the basis of the development achieved by them,” he added.
“It is the demand of the time and circumstances that development be accepted as the only issue of politics and Gujarat has shown the way,” he said.
He also said that the country progressed the most during Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule of Atal Behari Vajpayee when compared to central governments formed by the Congress or other parties.
Modi also criticised the Left Front, saying that every state where the Communists have formed a government has been ruined.
