Aligarh: The Indo-European Union Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India has initiated a project to address the municipal wastewater treatment using low cost innovative technologies such as anaerobic – aerobic combinations while considering the green and sustainable approaches. The project will be conducted by a consortium of 21 partners including 11 institutions and organizations from India and 10 from European countries.
The Indian partners in the project are IIT Delhi, Kalyani University, Kolkata, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak, MP, UP Jal Nigam, Agra, Aligarh Nagar Nigam, Aligarh, Centre for Built Environment, Kolkata, Bio-Tech India, Kerala, AARVEE Associates, Hyderabad, UPPL, New Delhi and the Aligarh Muslim University, while the European partners include institutions of higher learning from Spain, Denmark, Germany, France and Slovenia.
Dr. Nadeem Khalil, Department of Civil Engineering, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University is the coordinator from Indian side. The total duration of this project is 3 years and the total outlay of the project is shared by Indian and Europe with their stakes of Rs. 4.62 Crores and 1.9 Million Euros respectively.
Dr. Khalil said that the project has great national and international importance, as it would It aims at developing optimized schemes for municipal wastewater management in order to make full use of water resources in irrigation, cleaning, public and/or private demands, aquaculture farm feed etc. and to maximize energy savings in developing countries like India. Under this project, pilot studies shall be conducted and monitored at five different places in India.
He said that the inaugural Workshop-cum-First Global Partners’ Meet will be held at Aligarh Muslim University on April 22, 2013 at the Assembly Hall, Engineering College, AMU. He said that Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, Vice Chancellor will be the chief guest and Brigadier Syed Ahmad Ali, Pro-Vice Chancellor, AMU and Dr. Mrs. Nalini Bhat, Advisor, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India will be the guests of honour.
