Independence Day celebrated amidst great cheer on Jamia campus

    New Delhi: The 67th Independence Day of India was celebrated in Jamia Millia Islamia on Thursday, August 15, 2013.

    As per practice, Independence Day Celebrations are always held in the Jamia Senior Secondary School Campus. The Independence Day Celebrations in Jamia is an occasion for the entire Jamia biradari to congregate and celebrate together. This year too was no different and saw the participation of teachers, students and support staff, who came together on this occasion.



    The celebrations on the day began at 10.30 AM with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Prof. S M Sajid, Offg. Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia. His arrival was soon followed by the Flag Hoisting Ceremony and the singing of the National Anthem.



    Thereafter, Prof. S M Sajid, the Chief Guest of the function delivered his speech where he exhorted the audience to realize the importance of the day. He also reminded those present about the role played by Jamia Millia Islamia in India’s independence struggle.

    The programme ended with the distribution of sweets among the students and other invited children, including those from less privileged background.
