Cairo : Egyptian police Thursday arrested Ahmed Aaref, spokesperson of the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo.
Aaref has been transferred under intensive security measures to Torah prison complex, where Brotherhood top leader Mohamed Badie and his first deputy Khirate Shater, as well as hardliner Islamist preacher Safwat Hegazi and the group’s media advisor Morad Mohamed Ali are detained, Xinhua reported citing the official Egyptian news agency MENA.
Aaref was arrested in his father-in-law’s apartment in the Cairo suburb of Nasr City. The apartment is near Rabaa al-Adawiya square, one of the two sites where supporters of the ousted president Mohamed Morsi used to stage rallies.
According to another MENA report, the Egyptian prosecution has ordered the detention of Hegazi for 30 days pending investigations into charges of inciting violence and killing anti-Morsi protesters.
