New Delhi : Rajasthan’s Congress Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot got elected Sunday even as his party was drubbed in assembly elections. In contrast, his Delhi counterpart Sheila Dikshit bit the dust.
Gehlot, who became chief minister five years ago, won by 18,478 votes from Sardarpura constituency.
He bagged 77,835 votes while Sambhu Singh Khetasar of the Bharatiya Janata Party, his nearest rival, got 59,357 votes.
Dikshit, who has ruled Delhi since 1998, suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) founder leader Arvind Kejriwal.
Dikshit could manage only 18,405 votes in New Delhi constituency in the heart of the city in contrast to Kejriwal’s 44,269 — losing by a whopping 25,864 votes.
