New Delhi: A man was arrested here with five kg opium valued Rs.1 crore in the international market, police said Friday.
Gurpreet Singh, 28, who runs a roadside eatery (Dhaba) in Delhi, was arrested Wednesday from the Alipur area of west Delhi where he had gone to deliver the opium consignment to one of his contacts.
Gurpreet told police he would procure opium from the border areas of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and supply it to customers in Delhi and Punjab.
A resident of Punjab, he came to Delhi in 2007 and worked as a tourist bus driver.
“In 2007, he came in touch with some drug traffickers of Rajasthan and started supplying contraband drugs in Delhi and Punjab,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Ravindra Yadav.
