Kolkata : Students from nearly 4,000 schools across West Bengal will learn about the protective measures industry is taking to safeguard the environment at the ‘Kishore Paribesh Mela’ beginning here Tuesday.
Organised by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB), the maiden youth-environment fair will see the participation of 13 public and private sector industries and students from the eco-clubs of the state’s over 3,900 schools.
“This is the first time such an event has been organised where students from across the state will get to know about how industries participate in protecting the environment,” WBPCB chairman Binoy K. Dutta told IANS.
“The event will mainly focus on how they ensure the environment stays safe in their respective areas,” he added.
Cultural programmes like puppet shows, mimes, animated films centred on environmental theme would be put up to engage the young learners during the three-day event.
“Industries do not alone pollute the environment but they are a big component, so it is necessary for the children to learn what can be done,” said Dutta.
