Congress should not treat Muslims as a vote bank: FMSA ALIGARH

Aligarh: Eminent author of the book Aligarh Movement, Tariq Hasan said that Mahatma Gandhi was of the opinion that whenever we take any decision, we should consider its fallout on the poorest citizen. He was speaking in the symposium “Nine Years of UPA Rule: Muslim Empowerment” held by Forum for Muslim Studies & Analysis” at Media Center Aligarh, Muzammil Manzil. He said that justice delivery system has collapsed in the country and without justice nothing could be achieved.

Member of AMU Executive Council, Dr. Mohammad Shahid said that the Congress is continuously delaying the issue of minority status to AMU. It should declare AMU a minority institution by getting a Bill to that effect passed in the parliament.

Former President of AMU Teachers Association Prof. Naim Ahmad raised the issue of security of Muslim youth and said that no community can progress in absence of security. Prof. Shamim Ahmad pointed out that there is difference between first phase of UPA rule and second phase. Though in first phase it had taken some positive steps but in second, the Congress is just keeping silence.

Secretary General of Forum, Jasim Mohammad said that despite promising in its election manifesto, the Congress has not passed Communal Violence Bill. He demanded that the Minorities Commission and Human Rights Commission should be granted prosecution powers.

Former President of AMU Students Union Dr. Syed Mohsin Raza said that people expect direction from AMU and Alig Community should play that role. Prof. Sheikh Mastan said that India is multi religious country and Muslims should fight for their rights along with other marginalized groups.

Earlier presiding over the symposium, Prof. Razaullah Khan said that Congress has failed to fulfill its commitments during nine years of its rule and it must honour its words.

Conducting the symposium, Vice President of Forum N. Jamal Ansari said that the Congress treats Muslims as vote bank and that psyche is not a good sign for political health of Congress.

In the end a resolution was passed demanding that the Congress should fulfill its promiress made in the election manifesto otherwise Muslims will look to other political parties. Welcoming the visit of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, another resolution said that the visit of Aligarh of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi should not be opposed by anyone in the interest of the Aligarh Muslim University.
