Fugitive ex-cop shoots two in US

Los Angeles: Christopher Dorner, the former Los Angeles police officer being sought by police for murdering three people, opened fire Tuesday on sheriff’s deputies pursuing him near Big Bear Lake, California, wounding two of them, media said.

Dorner is thought to be holed up in a cabin, the San Bernardino County sheriff’s office said.

The shootings took place after the US Navy and LAPD veteran forced his way into a home, tied up the couple living there and stole a white van, authorities said.

Police responded to a telephone call alerting them to the robbery about 12.22 p.m. and the homeowners said that the suspect matched Dorner’s description.

The manhunt began last Thursday in Corona where Dorner opened fire on two police officers as they were sitting in their patrol car waiting for a red light to change.

One officer died in the incident and the other one was wounded and is still in the hospital, although he is expected to live.

That same day, police shot two women after mistaking their vehicle for the one Dorner was allegedly driving.

Earlier, the suspect had threatened to wage “unconventional and asymmetric warfare” on the LAPD in a manifesto he posted on his Facebook page.

It is believed that Dorner, who was kicked off the Los Angeles police force in 2009, murdered the daughter of an officer involved in the case that got him fired as well as the daughter’s boyfriend.
