Ratan Tata urges India, Britain to tap third-party markets

Mumbai : Tata Group chairman emeritus Ratan Tata Monday called for a deeper partnership between India and Britain which would not only serve the two countries but also tap third-party markets like Asia and Africa.

Addressing a high-level meeting of Indian businessmen with visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron, Tata said that if India and England could be partners, “both not only can serve the large Indian markets, but also cater to Asia and African markets”.

Lauding the British business environment, Tata said his group’s experience in Britain has been very positive and referred to the Jaguar and Land Rover deal along with the British steel giant Corus, which makes Tata the largest manufacturer in that country.

“It has been a very pleasant experience, the manner in which the British government supports us,” Tata acknowledged, adding that Tata Group made the huge investments despite the financial meltdown.
