Army chief reviews Kashmir situation

Jammu: Indian Army chief Gen. Bikram Singh Saturday reviewed the latest situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of some of the incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops and the killing of two Indian soldiers on the Line of Control.

He visited the Northern Command headquarters at Udhampur, 65 kms north of Jammu. Due to the bad weather, Gen. Singh had to land at Jammu and go to Udhampur by road.

During his short visit, the army chief interacted with the Northern Command chief, Lt.Gen. K.T. Parnaik, and other senior officers.

“He was apprised of the current security situation and the operational preparedness in Northern Command as well as the complex dynamics of the proxy war situation in the state,” Northern Command spokesman, Lt. Col. Rajesh Kalia said in a release.

The army chief exhorted senior commanders to further consolidate on their gains in counter-insurgency operations achieved during the past two years.

Gen. Singh has immense experience of the operational dynamics in the state as he has commanded various formations in the state.
