Silver jubilee celebrations of electronics department of AMU

Aligarh: The Department of Electronics Engineering of the Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology at the Aligarh Muslim University today organized its Silver Jubilee celebrations.

Delivering the keynote address, Syed Zakaul Haque, Director, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Government of India said that Electronics industry is the fastest growing manufacturing industry in the world and India is the second largest consumer of electronics goods and the services on the globe. But it was a pity that not a single hardware company in India figured among the top 50 manufacturers in the world.

Haque pointed out that broadband does not provide only a high-speed internet access but also empowers to enhance business productivity through communication and is a tool for economic growth and infrastructure development. It is an instrument for inspiring the quality of life by providing affordable access to knowledge and information.

Haque urged the faculty members to provide opportunities for growth and development of one’s personality in almost every aspect of life, remove the hampering influence and seek to encourage students to venture into the ideas to form perception, to do inventions and innovations towards improving the quality of life and accelerating the growth and development of the country.


He maintained that technological change and innovations driven by Research and Development have been the main driving force for increased productivity and eco-growth.

In his presidential remarks, AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah extended sincere congratulation to the department on completing 25 successful years towards achieving academic excellence and service to society.

He said that the Department of Electronics Engineering had produced several eminent alumni of national and international fame. He urged the faculty members to develop the reverse technology for the betterment of life.

Gen. Shah urged the keynote speaker to help provide internet connection to the whole campus for the benefit of the students.

Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, Prof. M. Salim Beg, Chairman, Department of Electronics Engineering said that it was one of the few departments of the university, which received DST grant twice under the FIST programme. He said that the department also had the distinction of being the first department of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology to be awarded the prestigious Departmental Research Support (DRS) by the University Grants’ Commission in 2004 for 5 years. In addition, the faculty members of the department have received a total grant of Rs. 300 lakhs from extra mural research agencies.

Prof. M. Salim Beg highlighted the achievements of the faculty members and staff. He said that a number of faculty members had obtained PhD from UK and USA and several of them have received higher degrees from IITs and IISc etc. He said that the department was working on several research fronts in active collaboration with foreign institutions such as University of Essex, Loughborough University, University of Edinburg, Queen’s University at Belfast and University of Toledo, USA etc.

On this occasion, Prof. V. K. Parashar, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Prof. Ekram Husain, Principal, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology also addressed the inaugural function. Dr. M. Samar Ansari proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Ale Imran conducted the programme.
