Chandigarh : BJP leader Kamal Sharma was Tuesday elected as the president of the party’s Punjab unit.
Sharma was elected unanimously in the presence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national vice president Shanta Kumar and general secretary Jagat Prakash Nadda, replaces outgoing president Ashwini Sharma.
A activist of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh’s (RSS) student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Sharma was appointed political advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal June last year.
Badal’s Akali Dal and BJP have an alliance government in Punjab.
Speaking to party leaders and workers after his election, Sharma said that his immediate priority would be to ensure the victory of BJP-Akali Dal candidates in the 2014 general elections. Punjab has 13 Lok Sabha seats.
