Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) students and staff members participated in a rally to support the victims of sexual harassment. Policy against Discrimination and Sexual Harassment (PADASH), MANUU was the main organizer of the demonstration, titled ‘March for Human Dignity’.
Nearly 500 students began the march in the evening from Languages building in the MANUU campus, the rally went around whole campus and when it reached the main administrative building it turned almost doubled, as many other students and faculty members joined the march.
The march against sexual harassment was organized in the backdrop of completion of one month of horrific Delhi gang rape incident, in which 23 year old physiotherapy student Nirbhaya died.
The participants in the march shouted slogans to encourage respect for women like ‘Aurat ki Izzat, Mulk ki Izzat’ (Dignity of Women is esteem of the Nation); they also demanded severe punishment like death penalty for the rapists.
The march culminated into a Human chain at Landscape garden near Administrative building where a candle light vigil was organized in respect of the Delhi brave heart rape victim Nirbhaya.
