Re-opening of cases against MIM leaders is political revenge: CLMC

By TCN News,

Hyderabad: Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC) has condemned the arrest of Asaduddin Owaisi, President of MIM and Member of Parliament, by reopening an old case.

In 2005 Owaisi senior was protesting against the demolition of a masjid in the name of road widening at Muttangi village of Sanga Reddy in the Medak district of Andhra Pradesh.

CLMC, in a press statement said, “It was an old matter and forgotten case but when MIM withdrew the support from the Congress government by charging Kiran Kumar Reddy of being a follower of RSS… (that) everything changed for MIM and Congress government started taking revenge with MIM party by digging out old cases and registering new cases.”

Lateef Mohammed Khan, general secretary of the CLMC, said, “All these cases are politically motivated and it is political revenge of Congress party.” He added, “With these kinds of acts Kiran Kumar Reddy led Congress government want to suppress MIM directly and is threatening Muslim community indirectly.”

Old Hyderabad is tense at the moment as Muslim youths are feeling they are being humiliated by targeting their leaders wontedly, he added.

CLMC has also condemned the attitude of the lower courts who are entertaining each and every individual approaching court to register the cases against political leaders and individuals, adding “the precious time of judiciary cannot be held up in these types of actions.”

Taking advantages of the court orders the communal police officers are registering the cases under the serious charges which cannot be justified under any circumstances, CLMC statement added.

“In a democracy and parliamentary politics, it is very common that the differences will emerge and leaders and parties criticize each other. But these differences should not be turned into personal enmity and moreover to suppress the political parties and a particular community through their leaders,” CLMC further said.

CLMC has further demanded that the central government should intervene and remove the Governor and Chief Minister of the state, for their “anti-Muslim stand.” It has further demanded the immediate release of Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi.
