New Delhi : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati Thursday slammed Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde for his “Hindu terrorism” remarks, saying it had agitated the majority community and facts should have been placed before courts.
Mayawati told reporters here that Shinde holds an important position in the government and had made the statement in haste.
She said Hindus were agitated and angry following the statement, and added that if Shinde had facts, he should have presented those before courts and allowed them to take a decision.
“Several terrorism-related cases are pending before courts across the country…It would have been better had he himself not raised the issue and left it to the courts,” she said to queries.
She said all religions should be respected and statements that hurt sentiments of any faith’s followers should be avoided.
Shinde had referred to Hindu terrorism and saffron terrorism during the Congress conclave in Jaipur Sunday.
“Whether it is BJP or RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh), their training camps are promoting Hindu terrorism,” he had said.
