Mumbai : The Maharashtra government Thursday approved the setting up of an independent special cell to deal with and fast track cases of crimes and atrocities against women in Mumbai, Home Minister R.R. Patil said.
The special independent cell – on the lines of the economic offences wing – will be based at the Mumbai Police headquarters, according to Patil.
“It will work in two parts, one investigating serious offences like rape, molestation and kidnapping, and the other probing dowry-related cases,” Patil said.
The state government was considering setting up similar cells in other parts of the state, he added.
