India, Spain to set up tourism promotion forum

New Delhi : India and Spain have agreed to set up a tourism promotion forum to encourage tourism between the two countries.

The decision to set up the forum was taken after union Tourism Minister Chiranjeevi held bilateral discussions with Spanish Minister for Industry, Tourism and Trade Jose Manuel Soria Lopez in Madrid Thursday, according to a statement issued here.

“Both the countries agreed to set up Indo-Spain Tourism Promotion Forum for building a dialogue between the stakeholders of tourism, travel and hospitality industry of India and Spain,” the statement said.

The statement also said that Spain showed “keen interest” to invest in the hotel sector in India which allows 100 percent foreign direct investment.

“Both sides emphasised on direct air connectivity between India and Spain,” it added.

A Spanish delegation, led by Secretary of State of Spanish Tourism Isabel Maria Barrege Cortes, will visit India soon to discuss these proposals, the statement said.

India will also host the 1st Joint working group meeting on tourism co-operation between India and Spain soon, it added.
