New Delhi : The Delhi government hopes to make the city a hub of high technology and skilled economic activities, Delhi Industry Minister Haroon Yusuf said Thursday.
The minister told an event here that with the advent of Delhi’s new industrial policy for 2012-21, the capital’s economic profile would change from one of low-skilled to high-tech and high-skilled economy.
A key strategy to achieve this would be through infrastructure development and better management of industrial estates, he said.
Yusuf was addressing members of industrial associations while launching the upgrade of infrastructure of the Patpargang and Okhla (Phase III) industrial areas.
The minister lauded the efforts of the Delhi State Industrial Investment Development Corp (DSIIDC) in giving a thrust to industries in the capital and promised all help to representatives of the industrial associations.
DSIIDC has undertaken upgrading of infrastructure of the Patparganj and Okhla industrial areas, transferred to the DSIIDC following the industrial policy of 2010-12.
The Patparganj industrial area was planned and commissioned in 1992. It is home to 609 units engaged in producing surgical goods, metal processing, dyeing and electro plating products.
The Okhla Industrial Estate is one of the oldest industrial areas in the city. Conceived by Jawaharlal Nehru, it was developed in 1958 to accommodate light manufacturing units.
