Bahraich,UP: A meeting of prominent alumni’s of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) of the city was held today to discuss the prospects of opening of a special off campus centre of AMU in the region. Presiding the meeting senior AMU alumnus and social worker Syed Abdul Jalil said that AMU is an epitome of Muslim education, but majority of people are unable to study here. He lauded the efforts of those people by whose tireless initiatives AMU’S two off campus branches/centers have been established and running successfully in Kerala and West Bengal and one is planned to be opened in Bihar. He added that these centers will go a long way in ensuring easy access of education for the Muslim masses. He also said that a similar centre/branch can be established in eastern part of UP.
President of Sir Syed foundation and AMU alumnus Mohd Farrukh khan said that Bahraich could be an ideal location for the purpose of establishment of AMU’s special centre as it can easily cater to the educational needs of Terai, Awadh and Purvanchal regions where a sizeable Muslim population resides. Also a huge property of AMU is situated here in Meghala village of Fakhrpur pargana at Kaiserganj Tehsil which was donated by Chowdhary Sant Ram to AMU by a registered gift deed which can ideally be used for the establishment of the centre.
Mohd Yasir Siddiqui , former cabinet member of AMU students union and vice president of Sir Syed foundation said that AMU has been endowed with the responsibility for the educational and cultural advancement of Muslims of India under sec 5(2)(C) of AMU act,1981 and this responsibility can be achieved by spreading AMU and taking it beyond the four walls of Aligarh.
A resolution was passed at the meeting regarding the establishment of AMU off campus centre in Bahraich and for the retention of AMU’s existing off campus centers in different parts of the country with AMU only.
The meeting was attended by a large number of AMU alumnis and students.
