Ranchi : The Jharkhand government Friday tabled its first supplementary budget of Rs.796.78 crore in the state assembly while the opposition questioned its need.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Singh, who has been given temporary charge of the finance department, tabled the supplementary budget.

The main budget for 2013-2014 was tabled in parliament as the state was then under President’s rule.

In the supplementary budget, the energy and home departments have been allocated Rs.300 crore and Rs.378 crore respectively.

It will be discussed and passed Saturday.

The opposition parties questioned the move.

“Jharkhand fails to spend the money every year… then what is the need to seek extra money through a supplementary budget,” Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) legislator Pradeep Yadav told reporters later.
