Anupam angry at government’s apathy towards Kashmiri Pandits

By IANS,

Mumbai : Veteran actor Anupam Kher says the problems faced by Kashmiri Pandits are not being addressed and the government’s apathy towards them upsets him.

“I am a Kashmiri Pandit. I have been a victim of the atrocities done towards our community. We are our own voice, no one represents us,” he said at a book launch here Sunday.

Titled “The Divine And The Destiny”, the book written by Meenakshi Raina focuses on the struggle of the Kashmiri Pandit community.

“I am angry at the impotence of the government. Just because Kashmiris don’t pick up guns, they are not being noticed,” he said and added that he hasn’t “read the book”, but understands the miseries of the community as his “family has also gone through these problems”.

“The greatness of our community is that we don’t pick up the sword, we pick up the pen,” he said.

In fact, Anupam too wants to put pen to paper.

“I would like to write a book about my father. I have thought of the title too. They will be lessons my father taught me unknowingly. Most of the stories will be based in Kashmir only,” he said.

Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra was also present at the event and said: “I hope books like this will help revive these emotions.”
