Welfare Party expresses concern over internal situation in Bangladesh

By TCN News,

New Delhi: The Welfare Party of India (WPI), in a statement issued here, expressed its “deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation and large-scale loss of life and properties in our eastern neighbouring country.”

Dr SQR Ilyas, General Secretary of the Party said that putting somebody on trial is an internal matter of that country, referring to the International Crimes Tribunal trial in Bangladesh. However he shared with regret that the democratically elected Shaikh Haseena government failed in convincing the world that her government had taken due care to conduct the war crime trial against the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in general and the Jama’at-e-Islami in particular, the two prominent political organizations of that country in an environment of total fairness and transparency.

“Reported harassment of lawyers representing the accused and seizure of copies of The Economist, in large-scale , that exposed some bitter truths of the tribunal, have put shadow of doubt over digging up the four decades old episodes against leaders of the BNP and the Jama’at-e-Islami,” he added.

WPI also demanded that the Bangladesh government should desist from using disproportional use of repressive force against the protestors and that all rights of its citizens are protected. The General Secretary also asked the Awami League government to ensure that political vendetta has played no role in the ongoing trial and legal and procedural formalities are fully adhered to.

WPI also remined the Government of India that an aggravated civil chaos in the neighbouring country will have high adverse impact on us and asks to use its authority and influence to find a solution to the conflict and bring all concerned to the point of reconciliation and compromise.
