New Delhi: Dr. Jairam Ramesh, Minister for Rural Development, will deliver the Keynote Address at an international conference on “The Eastern Himalaya: Climate Change, Livelihoods and Poverty” at Jamia Millia Islamia.
The Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research of the university is going to organize a two-day international conference on March 7-8.
The Conference will explore some of these issues as part of an effort to evolve better strategies for capacity building and sustainable growth. Najeeb Jung, Vice-Chancellor of the university, will deliver Opening Remarks in the Inaugural Session of the Conference.
The Inaugural Session of the Conference is scheduled to be held on March 7, 2013 at 9.45 am in the Conference Hall of FTK-Centre for Information Technology.
Shekhar Pathak, Ecologist and Founder, Peoples Association for Himalaya Area Research (PAHAR) and PD Rai, Lok Sabha MP from Sikkim, will also address the audience on this occasion.
The Conference is expected to be attended by academicians, bureaucrats, research scholars, experts, from India and abroad. These include, among others, from IIT, Guwahati, Madras University, Sikkim University, Uttarakhand, Manipur, New Delhi, University of Dhaka, London School of Economics, Bhutan, etc.
Wajahat Habibullah, Chairman of the National Minorities Commission will chair the introductry session.
The conference will conclude with “Cultural Evening” on March 8, 2013 from 5.30-7.30 PM at Safdar Hashmi Amphitheatre, behind Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium, Jamia Millia Islamia. The cultural programmes will include Patronymic: Rock from Jamia, Raslila: Manipuri Classical Dance, Urban Inc.: Hip-hop from Sikkim, Alobo Naga and the Bank: Rock from Nagaland and Brahmaputra Bihu Group: Dance from Assam.
