Puducherry: A campaign to gather support for iconic Manipuri activist Irom Sharmila, on a fast for about 12 years demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, was launched on March 8 at Chennai on International Women’s Day.
As a part of it the awareness campaign organized at Puducherry by the volunteers of Khudai Khidmatgar and the Puducherry Student Federation. Khudai Khidmatgar National Secretary Inamul Hasan participated in the programme and said, “The main objective is to make people aware about her struggle for peace and democracy and to show our solidarity with her, the struggle for justice and peace would not be successful without the support of every human being who believe in peace living in this World.”

The campaign that began in Chennai will culminate on March 14 in Imphal, the capital of Manipur. The volunteers will sit on solidarity fast on March 12 in Imphal in her support.
